One of the Most important World Heroes of  Ecological Thinking

He wrote the most influential pages that contributed to the spread of ecological principles by activating people towards a holistic approach.

The Tao of Physics

The volume written by Capra illustrates the ideas relating to the relationship between the universe discovered by modern physics and mysticism, especially Eastern; calls for reflection on man’s relationship with the ecosystem and supports the need to abandon the rigid rationalism typical of modernity.

These reflections are taken up and expanded in subsequent works, including: The turning point. Science, society, and the rising culture (1982), The web of life (1997), The science of Leonardo: inside the mind of the great genius of the Renaissance (2007), Learning from Leonardo (2012),

The systems view of life: a unifying vision (2014) and Discourse on herbs. From Leonardo’s botany to plant nets (with S. Mancuso, 2019).

We read his books, and we followed personally one of his most brilliant Italian pupil:  Ugo Sasso founder of the organic movement for Sustainable Architecture and Urbanism called “Bioarchitettura” (green buildings). If you want more information on this architectural movement check the website of the “Istituto Nazionale di Bioarchitettura”.

We met Fritjof Capra during his presentation  of the Exhibition “la Botanica di Leonardo” in Florence: we had the privilege to chat with him and then he gave us the opportunity to interview him. You will see soon the video of the interview.

During the Last Fall we took part of his The systems view of life online course: a brief overview of the type of the contents provided  during the course is in our blog

Are you truly ecologist?

Fritjof Capra and Ecology, Fritjof Capra and Beauty

DANIELA BRIGHI, had the opportunity to interview Fritjof Capra thanks to the fact that Fritjof Capra was a mentor and a friend of her Maestro Ugo Sasso, “father” of the Bioarchitettura in Italy. The goal of this interview:

  1. Fritjof Capra way of thinking and his motivation towards Ecology, then some advice to give us and first actions to let people begin a new path to positively impact our world.
  2. Many people know what is not Beauty. Less people can define what Beauty is. What is Beauty for Fritjof Capra, How can we improve the experience of Beauty in our everyday life
  3. In his opinion which are the effects on small and worldwide scale, for humans and ecological systems in the short and long time

Which people influenced most his life? Why and how? Referring to Beauty, authentic Beauty, BeauTrip idea is: think about when you feel the emotion of Beauty. You are in harmony with nature and with other people. We believe that in that precise state of mind-body-soul it is easier for each person to make a deep change and to move towards a change trough sustainability.

Think about what you feel when you are staring at a sunset!

How does your story began? What is your background? What push you forward? What animates you? In what do you believe? Which are your values? Who are you?

Visualizing your life: which are the most important moments and meetings that changed most your life since you are here at this level of consciousness? Which people influenced most your life ? Why and how?

If you had huge amount of power, time and money what will you do first? What would you want people learn? What would you teach? Who are your masters? Could you give us the name of some masters to study or if it’s possible to interview? Which is your pensiero?

Which concepts do you want last forever? How would you be remembered? What is the common mister-understanding on you? What do you want people don’t say about your ideas?

“I had strong experiences of beauty in the Mediterranean, in the Tirolean Alps, at the side of beautiful human beings, of beautiful statues of Indian gods, listening to the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Aliatt Bachan. What stands out in these moments is a mix of emotions: EXCTIMENT, PASSION, JOY, GRATITUDE AND THE SENSE OF ALL, sometimes they take my breath away”

Gregory Bateson  – He made significant contributions to several sciences — anthropology, cybernetics, psychiatry, and, most important of all, to the new interdisciplinary field of cognitive science, which he pioneered. But perhaps even more important is the fact that he championed a new way of thinking, which is extremely relevant to our time — thinking in terms of relationships, connections, patterns, and context.

Humberto Maturana – one of the greatest biologists of the twentieth century. His theory of autopoiesis and cognition, developed in collaboration with Francisco Varela, provides a clear scientific answer to the age-old question “What is Life?”. It is based on two revolutionary insights: that the essence of biological life is a certain pattern of organization (a self-generating network of metabolic processes); and that all living organisms continually regenerate themselves by interacting cognitively with their environment. Based on these two insights, Maturana and Varela created the first scientific theory that unifies mind, matter, and life. link to a note from Fritjof on Maturana
